For 2 days last week employees across all departments at Leonardo came together for our first ever Leonardo Hackathon. The hackathon was an opportunity for everyone to work together to build and pitch fresh ideas to help solve business challenges and make our lineup of hotel marketing solutions even better.
In total over 40 employees, split in to 8 teams, participated in the Leonardo Hackathon. The teams competed to come up with the best business solution to different ideas centered on the theme of integrating Leonardo with processes or other technologies out there in the hospitality industry.
In the weeks leading up to the Leonardo Hackathon, employees were encouraged to submit ideas for the hackathon. With many great ideas coming from different departments, our teams were able to look at improvements that may not normally make the product development roadmap, and learn more about the different issues facing each department.
Out of the dozens of ideas that were submitted, 8 ideas were shortlisted for the hackathon.
- Virtual tour performance optimization using OpenGL
- Integrating social media feeds to Vizlly websites
- Video hosting integration with YouTube
- Leobot: looking up data with chat bots
- Vizlly user activity tracking
- Face detection image cropping
- Location and event API integration
- Website asset scrape integration

We Have a Winner!
The winning team, Team Fawesome, worked on the idea of website asset scrape integration in order to improve efficiency for our storytellers in the Customer Success Department. Team Fawesome came up with a great solution to reduce the amount of time it takes for our storytellers to build websites for our clients. Their solution would reduce the time a storyteller needs to produce a website from 22 to 4 hours, resulting in an 81% time saving as well as an 80% cost saving.
The winning team was rewarded for their great presentation with a $100 Best Buy gift card and an extra vacation day for every team member. Thank you to everyone who made the Leonardo hackathon an overwhelming success and congratulations to Ibrahim, Justin, Sarah, Michael, Mitchell and Naveen of Team Fawesome for your winning presentation.
