In a world where virtually every other person uses the internet for everything from research, to socializing, and naturally for shopping and booking travel, having a high-functioning, visually-driven website is not something that’s nice to have, it’s essential.
There are 2 approaches in creating a website for your B&B – you can either take on the project of building and maintaining a website yourself or you can licence one from a technology company that will host and maintain a website for you. What’s the difference? Which option is best? We explored the topic during our recent webinar, Should You Build Your Own or License Your Website?
I was joined by Janice Hurley Hollis, In-Market Strategic Sales Executive at BedandBreakfast.com and Bob Tubbs, owner of the Cedars of Williamsburg Bed & Breakfast. Bob entertained us with his story of how he and his wife ended up at what he calls “Plan B&B.” And importantly he talked about how he came to the decision that licensing a website for his property allowed him to improve the performance of his online marketing, taking the agony out of managing it himself by simplifying the process.
Bob has experience with both building his own and licensing websites; but finds that the customer support, predictable monthly costs, and automatic updates required to keep current with changes in search, consumer shopping behavior and his competition made licensing a clear choice for him.
We also covered:
- Why B&B owners should have an independent website
- The differences between building your own website vs. licensing one
- The essential checklist to guide your decision to build or license
- Characteristics of a best practice website
